The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) launched "Legionnaires` disease The control of legionella bacteria in water systems Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) and guidance on regulations L8 (Fourth Edition)" on 25th November 2013. This has simplified the Third Edition and has removed Part 2, the technical guidance, which is now published separately in HSG274. The ACoP L8 applies to the control of legionella bacteria in any undertaking involving a work activity and to premises controlled in connection with a trade, business or other undertaking where water is used or stored and where there is a means of creating and transmitting water droplets which may be inhaled, thereby causing a reasonable foreseeable risk of exposure to legionella bacteria. It is enforceable under the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA) 1974, the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Managing for health and safety (HSG65), and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002. To comply with legal duties, employers, or those in control of premises must:
Identify and assess sources of risk
Prepare a scheme to control the risk
Appoint a managerial responsible person to implement, manage and monitor the scheme
Maintain records of all control measures implemented
"The Code has a special legal status. If you are prosecuted for breach of health and safety law, and it is proved that you did not follow the relevant provisions of the Code, you will need to show that you have complied with the law in some other way or a court will find you at fault." ACoP L8
Pure-Tech UK Ltd carries out Legionella Risk Assessments (to ACoP L8) on all commercial/government buildings at competitive prices. All of our Legionella Risk Assessments include water system(s) identification, preliminary and domestic risk assessments and findings, asset registers and survey sheets, photographs of findings, schematic drawings, schedule for monitoring, our recommendations, action management plans and a legionella control logbook.
We recommend your Legionella Risk Assessment is reviewed at least every two years or when there is reason to suspect it is no longer valid. It is reviewed when there is a change in the following:
The water system or its use
The use of the building of which it is installed
The availability of information about risks or control measures
The management of control measures or water source/quality
The risk factors i.e. contamination, amplification, transmission, exposure or host susceptibility
Where new construction work is expected to be carried out
When control measures are no longer effective
When a case of legionnaires’ disease is associated with the system
Pure-Tech UK Ltd design, supply and install all sizes of cold water storage tanks, from small plastic up to large sectional GRP tanks. All tanks are built to current water Byelaws and to The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. All cisterns are cleaned and disinfected to ACoP L8 on completion.
We can also refurbish existing storage tanks, alter sectional tank sizes for a better turnover of water, paint internal surfaces of galvanised steel tanks with WRAS Approved paint, change corroded bolts/braces for new stainless, and bring your cistern up to current Byelaws; install new valves, float valves, lid vents, screened overflows, tank insulation and much more.
We recommend cleaning and disinfecting your cold water storage tanks on an annual basis to maintain a clean water system and to help reduce sediment and other forms of food for bacteria.
Legionella Control Services
Pure-Tech UK offer various legionella monitoring regimes, such as monthly temperature monitoring, quarterly shower head/spray tap cleaning and disinfecting, six monthly cold water storage tank inspections, calorifier blow downs, annual tank inspections and thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) servicing.

Pure-Tech UK has Water Industry Approved Type BA (RPZ) valve testers. We are able to supply, install, commission and service RPZ valves.
The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 state that RPZ valves must comply with the requirements for water fittings (Regulation 4) and must be installed ‘in a workmanlike manner’. Both new installations and the replacement of existing valves should be installed to the Approved Installation Method (AIM).
The installation and use of RPZ valves must be notified in advance to the local water supplier and commissioned/tested before put into use.
RPZ valves must be serviced on an annual basis to ensure the valve operates as designed. We issue a certificate to both client and the local water supplier on completion.
Please contact us if you require further information on backflow prevention or have any requirements.
